I was trying to set up a menu last night and ran into two problems I couldn’t resolve. The first was that I couldn’t find a way to hide the extra ‘home’ button resulting from my having created a static page as a home page. The only instructions I could find for doing that suggested changing it to a child page of another page, but that simply resulted in having ‘home’ in one of my dropdowns.
The second problem was that when the menu plug-in was enabled, I couldn’t get widgets to display reliably. I kept putting them in the sidebars and they would usually disappear after displaying once or twice. With the menu disabled, widgets work as expected. I am using WordPress 2.9 and Thesis 1.6.
Thanks.

The menu only comes with one option for a home link, so the other must be coming from your list of static pages. Either exclude that page, or remove the home link to only display one.
February 15, 2010 at 3:03 am #7978AnonymousMemberI have up loaded the menu plugin, It appears but I can not get rid of the 2nd menu. I can see it in my header… I remove the Nav info from my master styl sheet, because it was creating the nav, ,and I wanted to use your menu drop down.. I am so confused. Hope you can help someone who knows very little about coding, yet spending hours trying to learn it…

February 16, 2010 at 5:58 am #7980AnonymousMemberSorry, I did forget the website url
http://www.julieelder.com/%5B/url:1ugp0714%5DYou will be able to see the second nav in my header, it is in the blue lettering… And I can not get my Nav to go up to the top of the page… As I stated I had to remove all of the orign nav info from the styl sheet because it kept showing thru also, so I do not have anything in the styl sheet to bring up the nav to the top. Hope you can help me…. Do I need to put the orign nav info back in, adjust the padding for the nav and then remove it again?

Here’s the HTML for it in case you had trouble finding it in the source:
[code:3p1pogrm] <ul><li class="current_page_item"><a href="http://www.julieelder.com">Home</a></li>
<li class="page_item page-item-1125"><a href="http://www.julieelder.com/hot-topics/" title="Hot Topics">Hot Topics</a></li>
<li class="page_item page-item-747"><a href="http://www.julieelder.com/contact-me/" title="Contact Me">Contact Me</a></li>
<li class="page_item page-item-976"><a href="http://www.julieelder.com/my-new-waistline/" title="My Waistline">My Waistline</a></li>
<li class="page_item page-item-98"><a href="http://www.julieelder.com/journey-with-me/" title="Journey with me..">Journey with me..</a></li></ul> [/code:3p1pogrm]
I’m not surprised the menu is not appearing at the top page since you don’t have it at the top of the source code. Move it to the top of the body code and I’d expect it to appear at the top of the page.
