Everyone,
I’m going to be developing a new plugin, and I was hoping to gather some input. For those of you who are worried about the fate of WP-Slimbox2, I’ll at least maintain it in the event that there are any errors or issues and possibly to release translations (so expect one more tiny release). The new plugin will carry over the current code and it’s continued development, but I also plan to implement other types of galleries that use the jQuery library. Essentially creating a multi-gallery plugin.
That said, if you have any ideas on jQuery gallery scripts let me know. I’ll do my best to allow maximum control over the settings provided by the scripts, but go ahead and give me other ideas for settings as well.
I haven’t yet decided how I’ll go about letting you select the gallery you wish to use, but ideas there are welcome as well.
Thanks.
May 26, 2009 at 9:06 am #6166imported_RyanMemberS3 Slider would be cool. As would the jQuery Carrousel plugin.
The S3 slider would be a great alternative to the ‘Featured Content Gallery’ plugin.
I’ve seen lots of sites which use the jQuery Carrousel plugin, but I think they have it hard coded into their theme. There is a plugin for it, but from what I saw it isn’t very good and I’m sure you could easily create something a lot better.
July 12, 2009 at 10:31 am #6167AnonymousMemberI would really like the ability to format thumbnail images so that they are same size and line up as neatly as in the original Jquery version:
http://www.digitalia.be/software/slimbox2is that possible?? (it may be possible within WP-slimbox 2 but I don’t know how??!)
thanksJuly 12, 2009 at 7:28 pm #6168malcalevakModeratorI have no clue what you mean… The slimbox include in WP-Slimbox2 is the original version, it’s just been tweaked to make it easier to add and use.
On a downside note, I haven’t actually had time to do any work on the new plugin, so I likely won’t have it out in time for the contest I initially planned to write it for.
That said, I still plan to make the plugin.
January 26, 2010 at 2:32 am #6169AnonymousMemberLet you fix image resolution with monitor resolution. I mean my monitor resolution 1440×900 if image is 2500×2500 nextgen gallery fits images to browser. But wpslimbox2 shows full image with js. I think his is not good. We can click image direct adress so i want to fit images to monitor screen resolution. You can put option with checkbox "max image resolution = fit images to monitor resolution or max browser area". Regards…
January 26, 2010 at 3:58 am #6170malcalevakModeratorThanks for the suggestion, but that’s more an issue for the creator of the actual slimbox javascript. I just provided a way to more easily harness the power of the script, without having to know javascript or php.
March 1, 2010 at 7:45 pm #6171AnonymousMemberIt would be great if any update could include an alternative layout for the lightbox pop-up for single images so that any description / caption could be easily positioned beside an image rather than only under it. I’m after a display along the lines of the images under "the book" in http://evomedicine.org/s1_4.html
By the way, if anyone already knows how to achieve such a reformat (for a replacement WordPress site http://evomed.pmcsa.org.nz/ that I am migrating the existing one to), then I would welcome offers of assistance. [The client is a non-profit scientific entity but they are open to the idea of paying for a reformat.]

June 19, 2010 at 1:27 am #6173AnonymousMemberI would be real careful of bundling a bunch of gallery scripts together. Slimbox is successful because it is lightweight and good with accessibility. A bundle would add a lot of code that people will only use part of and would indeed be wasteful. Plugins are easy enough to switch out so I would keep each gallery script as its own plugin.
June 19, 2010 at 2:12 am #6174malcalevakModeratorActually, the overhead would be minimal, and entirely on the php side, if coded properly you’d only load the javascripts a user wanted. You’d basically have several separate plugins you could turn on and off as you pleased, the controls have just been moved inside of a single instead of multiple.
That said, I posted about that a long time ago, and haven’t had chance to even do anything rudimentary on it. I’ve actually made further progress on a different plugin that I’ll hopefully have out soon, though it will likely not be as heavily used as slimbox.
August 6, 2010 at 6:35 pm #6175AnonymousMemberAny possibility of adding a geotag capability similar to what the plugin geotagphoto does?
see geotagphoto here http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/geotagphoto/
Would be nice to have all the options of the current slimbox2 plugin with the ability to read and map geotags on photos.
February 8, 2012 at 9:59 am #6176AnonymousMemberWell, I love the WP-Slimbox2 too much for WordPress, and I use the original Slimbox 2 code as well in our website. It also works great integrated with Nextgen gallery.
Wordpress is without doubt extremely slow compared to a regular website, so as a business blog, we value speed for the best viewer experience, and the small code of WP-Slimbox 2 helps a lot.

The only thing we would like is that images be scaled automatically to fit, with an option to view full image. This is what we had with Shutter Reloaded, and only switched to Slimbox 2 since Shutter Reloaded did not work well when viewed through an Ipad or Iphone, no problems with Slimbox 2. We can live without it, but it would be nice to have.
If you are going to make a new plugin, hope it will be a separate one from WP-Slimbox 2, so as not to disturb what is already a good plugin in terms of efficiency in WordPress. Unless of course, the new one is even more efficient.
Thanks ” title=”Smiley” />
