Hi Ryan and every body else reading,

i would really love to see the display-options back in simple cms. so log in and say something like "me too"!

one thing i absolutely like to see: stopping display/deactivating admin options for plugins. at the moment i see nothing i don´t want to get displayed, but every plugin that adds a menu option, still gets displayed. and i really don´t want a client to play with these options.

i´ll come back here and add further improvement wishes <img decoding=” title=”Smiley” />

I didn’t realise the plugin pages would be showing up.

I assume that is plugins which display menus nested inside the main sections? ie: if a plugin adds a page to the "Posts" section, it will show when you hover open that menu up? If so, I may actually need to remove them all one by one which is annoying, but doable. It would also require the plugin author to have added an ID to the menu option, if not then we may need to ask the plugin author(s) to add one so I can target it directly.

The other option would be to remove the existing menu, then replace it with an entire new one. But I can’t immediately see any convenient way to do this with WP 2.7. It was fairly straightforward with 2.5 -> 2.6.5, but 2.7 seems to be a little more complex.

yea, ryan. i meant the plugins, that make menu points beneath the menu-options-group "presentation/plugins/etc". i´m no prgrammer. maybe you can disable the > add_action(‘admin_menu’, ‘plugin_hook’) and exchange it with a new function, that simply calls the menu back in, step by step. you could add a admin-menu, where you could disable every single menu-item and maybe this is the point, where you assign the visibility to roles (hint: the role-manager compability is requested by nearly everybody who uses wordpress as a cms and writes at the necessary plugins.)

Sounds reasonable. I’ll be using whatever method is the easiest/fastest to implement though. This plugin is not at the top of my todo list since it isn’t very popular unfortunately.

"…since it isn’t very popular unfortunately…." not yet. take a look at this discussion: http://www.darrenhoyt.com/2008/10/21/wo … breakable/ maybe you´ll find something of your interest.

We’ll see. I honestly thought this would be a massively popular plugin. I looked for ages before I ended up hacking up the core WordPress code to do this, then later on realised how easily I could make a plugin to do the same thing.

The stats for downloads of the plugin are pitiful, only about 10 downloads per day.

they keywords are options and localization i think. And spreading the word. You got to go out and comment on the relevant cms-discussions and point people at the work. (Hint: the link)… and don´t forget 2.7 is new, there are a lot of new problems and your plugin is named "alpha" and new too. don´t give up.

I’ve tried all that. The plugin simply isn’t very popular. It seems to have a small but loyal following, but it just never seems to have caught on.

The plugin is now beta by the way and in the WP plugins repository as of last night.

"…but loyal following…" what else do you need? as long as the nr of wp-users who try to use it as a cms are constantly growing, you´re on the right way. the more cms-possibilities wp offers, the more users you´ll get. keep your head up, ryan.

hi ryan. i´m working on implementing ‘cimy user extra fields’-plugin at the moment and saw some hundred comments on marcos homepage. but it only got downloaded about 700 times. i don´t think, that the nr of downloads is a real argument. the number of your fans is what counts : )

Lol, well that’s a nice way of putting it <img decoding=” title=”Smiley” /> That is why I have updated it to work with WP 2.7. It isn’t really enough to justify spending enormous amounts of time developing it though, I need to make a living somehow and a small group of loyal followers unfortunately do not pay the bills <img decoding=” title=”Sad” />

to be back at the suggestions and wish list: i thought about the problem with plugins who add admin menu points at the top level. fact is, that they can´t get hidden by simple-cms. fact is, that every plugin whose behavior is like this will need to hook into admin panel with: "add_action(‘admin_menu’, ‘plugin_function’); – so you could simply make an admin option to disable the link for use level below 10 (admin): tell simple-cms-users what term they have to search for (in the plugin-file) and provide a text-field where they can enter the "plugin_function"-function-term. it´s just an idea, but maybe it´s that simple, that you could easily improve your plugin. wish you best!
