This decision has been reversed … https://geek.hellyer.kiwi/forum/index.php?topic=688.0
Support for the Simple CMS plugin will be discontinued as of WordPress 2.7. This new version of WordPress is not compatible with the plugin and since copycat plugins have been created since this plugin was first created we have decided there is little point in redesigning the plugin to work with the new version of WordPress. We will be recommending another plugin before the final stable version of 2.7 is released. More information will be posted when available.
December 18, 2008 at 7:35 pm #4095AnonymousMemberWhich plug-in do you recommend for 2.7?
December 20, 2008 at 1:29 am #4096imported_RyanMemberSorry, I haven’t managed to find another suitable one yet. I was hoping one of the other developers would continue their projects, but it seems that we’re all bailing out now. It’s not worth writing these plugins if the stupid admin panel keeps changing every six months unfortunately.
December 24, 2008 at 6:31 pm #4097triplemoonsexoticMemberDoes it work for 2.6?
Which of the downloads do you recommend?
http://wordpress.org/download/release-archive/I don’t mind downloading and using an older version of WordPress to use this plug-in.
December 25, 2008 at 8:40 am #4098imported_RyanMemberIt was originally developed for 2.5, but it should work fine in 2.5.1, 2.6, 2.6.1, 2.6.2, 2.6.3 and 2.6.4.
January 3, 2009 at 3:37 pm #4099AnonymousMemberHi Ryan,
i use your plugin in 2 older projects and it works fine. i hope you change your mind and keep developing. it´s lightweight and i wrote everywhere things like "use ryan´s simple cms" because it was/is best. btw: you didn´t find any other plugin to recommend, because there´s no other plugin that simply disables main-menu-items.
give yourself a push and bring to 2.7 … please!
January 4, 2009 at 9:04 am #4100imported_RyanMemberYeah, I honestly assumed someone else would update their own plugin. But I guess no on else can be bothered either ” title=”Sad” />
I have way too much stuff to do at the moment sorry. Maybe in a few months I’ll take another look if I have time.
If you signed up for our premium support service I could do it I suppose. Creating a whole plugin is a little beyond what I normally offer as part of the service, but if you don’t mind me releasing it to the public then that would be okay … https://geek.hellyer.kiwi/premium_support/
January 16, 2009 at 3:21 am #4101AnonymousMemberThis is incredibly ironic. I just came to the conclusion in the last month that the best solution for two of my clients is to somehow strip the WordPress backend of the blog items (the parts which would only scare and confuse them, like comments, oh my!). Wish I was a coder. I wonder if anyone would consider branching WP to make a CMS-only version (thus avoiding the changing admin panel thing)?
January 16, 2009 at 11:54 am #4102imported_RyanMemberHi Heidi,
Forking from WordPress to make a basic CMS is unlikely. It’s a lot easier to just create a plugin which removes the un-needed stuff, that way the WordPress guys handle all of the technical stuff and the plugin developer (originally me) can just remove the bits they want piece by piece.Creating a basic CMS with the functionality that this plugin has would be fairly straightforward, it would also run faster than WordPress since there’s so much less junk. However having the WP ‘junk’ in place is quite handy as if you need more functionality it is a lot easier to add it back in since it’s already there in the core.
There are a few very basic CMS’s around, but since they’re so basic they never seem to be worked on by good developers unfortunately and never seem to catch on. I was hoping this plugin would be very popular, but either it wasn’t being found by those who would be interested or there just isn’t enough people looking for this type of solution, I’m not sure which of the two it is.
January 16, 2009 at 7:23 pm #4103AnonymousMemberJust FYI, your decision to discontinue the project breaks my heart.
January 16, 2009 at 11:47 pm #4104imported_RyanMemberThat sort of response does encourage me to get it working again ” title=”Smiley” /> I’ll see what I can do. I have lot of stuff on my plate at the moment but I’ll bumpt it a bit further up my todo list.

Hopefully this will repair it … https://geek.hellyer.kiwi/forum/http://local … ic.php?t=8
April 19, 2009 at 6:25 pm #4106keressMemberI searched all morning for a plug in like this and am really sorry to see it’s not being supported. I have 2.7.1 installed and it works mostly. It’s just the ability to further control what’s displayed on the dashboard that doesn’t show up in the settings.
I’m very surprised to see this isn’t more popular. WordPress needs to be accepted as a CMS better. I know it can be used as such, but I’ve come across too many people, developers and users, who dismiss it as just a blog. If, when using just as a CMS, the users only saw the simple admin, it would help immensely.
